Dear Mother,
I am going to make this short tonight because I haven’t much time. I got the wrist watch today and think it is a dandy. So do the other fellows.
I also got the magazine. My liberty starts next Saturday and the week after that it will be on Sunday and then Saturday etc. Sunday is, I believe I have told you, will be a twelve hour leave being from noon until midnight and the Saturday being from 3 P.M. to midnight.
That wrist watch sure is a handy thing. I see by it now that I have to sign off. I will write another letter soon so
Good bye,
Erwin Holmquist
P.S. Did you get my insurance paper?
P.S. I got Lois’ cookies.
P.S. I haven’t stopped to figure out when that date will come out of that other fellow’s graduation that you were writing. I will write about that a little later. I have to get to bed now.
*Family note: Lois was Erwin’s 18 year old sister.
According to the 1942 City Directory, Lois was working as a machine operator at Globe Knitting in Grand Rapids.
