Dear Mom
I received your letter the other day with my dog tag in it and am very glad you sent it.
I tried to get Uncle Albert on the phone last night but I couldn’t get any results from that number and the operator couldn’t find a phone listed for that address so I will probably have to write him a letter and get in contact with him that way.
The old draft went out Friday and the only men that came in the new draft were airplane machinist mates so I suppose they are going to cut down on all the rest of the trades (so I was the last bunch that is coming here except the A.M.M.s. If I would have enlisted a little later I probably would have not had a chance to go to school. There aren’t many men here now in our barracks so we are having a lot more guard duty now. Well I haven’t got much else to say except that I believe we will have liberty as usual although on account of less men here they aren’t going to let anybody out Sat noon anymore. 4 o’clock is the first liberty.
So goodbye and with love,
Erwin Holmquist
Note: Uncle Albert was the brother of Erwin’s mom. Albert was employed by the John Miller Electric Company and according to his draft registration card he worked at the Ford Bomber Plant in Willow Run.
