Dear Mom

I received your letter and Lois’s card the other day. I hope you get the card that I sent.

I am on the other side of the barracks now (upper west). I think all the fellas left Saturday and then we moved. I can’t think of anything much to say. It’s the same routine here every day. There is a fella that sleeps near me now that used to live on Wilson Avenue in the house where Smiths live. That was quite a while ago. I believe I will sign off now. I will be home Saturday I expect so I can talk to you then.

So long. With love,

Erwin Holmquist

Note: My dad’s parents had their house built on Wilson Ave NW in 1928. My dad lived there since the age of seven. At some point during WWII the street name was changed to Patton because of confusion with another street named Wilson in nearby City of Walker. Erwin’s dad (my grandfather) had an automobile repair shop in the four stall garage behind the house.
