Dear Folks:

It is about time I write again. I’m having a swell time. Yesterday we had open post. I went to church in the morning and then in the afternoon I went out to the country club and looked around a little. Corsicana is a nice friendly little town. It is in a dry country so there are no beer gardens. The people treat the cadets real good.

Two of the fellows went to Dallas yesterday. They were big shots there. All the G.I. men saluted them. They were treated like officers all the time. But when the men from the regular army saluted them they almost fell over.

I thought we were going to go up in the air today but we didn’t. We met our instructor and he talked to us. He showed us the plane and showed us how to start it etc. We were out there from 8:00 A.M. until 11:30. Other days we would be on the flying line until 1:00. I just came by the mail room. They have my name on the list for a parcel post package. I don’t know what it is because nobody has said anything about sending me a package.

Our instructor seems to be a nice fellow. He is about 29 years old and a nice fellow to talk to. Each instructor has 5 cadets to teach. After talking to the instructor and looking the planes over, I am more confident than ever. I am positive I can fly okay.

This morning I got up at 6:00. I shaved and washed before anybody else got up. My shaver is broken. A little piece is broken out of the head. I don’t know just what to do about getting it fixed.

Well folks I better close I guess. Oh yes! My address has been slightly changed. It is a/c Alva Bessey, 301st A.A.F.C.F.S., Corsicana, Texas.

Write soon and lots.

Yours truly,

Alva
