Sun. 6:45 P.M.

Dear Folks:

Well I haven’t much to say but I’ll write a few lines anyway. We didn’t fly yesterday. I guess as a rule we don’t fly on Saturdays or Sundays. We had open post from noon yesterday until 1 A.M. and then again today until 5:30 P.M. I went with a kid who comes from Coopersville yesterday and we just monkeyed around until about midnight when we got back. I went in to church this morning. I came back about 1:00. I started writing letters but I fell asleep so I didn’t get any written except one.

I still haven’t had my 20 hr. check. I hope I get it tomorrow.

Yesterday morning we had a lecture. They told us all about what would be expected of us when we become officers and a lot of that stuff. They also told us that they were pretty sure that we would get a 10 day leave when we get done training and get our wings. So I’m hoping to get home in about 15 weeks. That’s still a long way off though.

Boy oh boy it is mighty hot. I was just wet with sweat all day.

You know of the 6 of us fellows who were on the train from Grand Rapids to Chicago that night, there is only 3 of us left. The one is this kid from Coopersville. One fellow washed out just the other day here.

Well folks how is the old place coming along? Say why don’t you folks take a few snapshots? I might not know what you look like when I get home. I imagine the kids have changed. Especially Jim. From what I hear he has grown quite a lot. Is old Nap still getting in the way all the time?

I bought fried chicken for my supper last night. But it wasn’t as good as Ma’s. Well I guess I will close. I’ll try to write more soon. I seem to have run out of stuff to write about.

So long,

Alva
