Dear Folks:
Just time for a few words. It’s almost bedtime. I had my 20 hr. check yesterday. I did pretty good on it I guess. So now I’ll have to make some awful mistake to not get through. My next check will be at about 40 hrs. and it will be on instrument flying. Then we have a final check on everything. I feel pretty good about getting past that 20 hr. check so easy.
Today we had a cross country flight. It took me 1 hr. 50 min. We had to land at two other airports on the way. They were little dinky places. They had instructors placed at each landing place. A lot of the boys used such bad judgment and headwork that they were given stars for it. I made better landings there than I usually do at Majors. I got another ship after I got back from my cross-country. I went up and just monkeyed around.
Altogether I had 3 hr. and 55 min. flying today. 4 hrs. is just about enough for one day too. I’m pretty tired tonight. That old engine was pounding in my ears for all that time and that’s really a racket it makes.
Say that’s great that Dad got a hay fork and rope. How much hay are you going to have this year? Will it be enough? And 8 calves too. That’s good. And 6 cows milking. They should give a fairly good milk check. About 14 weeks and I may be home for a few days. I hope so anyway.
It has been getting up to about 109 degrees in the shade about every day lately. That’s too hot to suit me. For all of me they can give Texas back to the Indians. Say whatever happened to that young sow you were keeping? Do you have any pigs or not?
Love,
Alva
P.S. Say I just finished that big jar of shaving cream. Remember?
P.S. I got to get to bed and boy I’m ready. I was doing slow rolls today. I’ve never been shown them yet. I just decided to try to figure them out for myself. AB
