6:55 P.M. Thurs.
Dear Folks:
I have time for only a few words. We have supper at 7:00 and I have to go to an extra Code class at 7:45 until 8:45. So I don’t have much spare time lately. I soloed yesterday. I only had 4 hrs. and 20 min. before yesterday. So I soloed quite quick. I was among the first to solo. But about 2 days ago I wouldn’t have give 2 cents for my chances. My instructor had told me about 50 times that he was going to eliminate me. I had the bad luck of getting the toughest instructor on the whole field. He gets mad, and he just screams into that microphone. He is going to wash one of our boys out. He is really tough. He never has a good word for us. I didn’t ride with him today. I went up solo for 2 hrs. 15 min.
9:15 Just returned from Code class. You asked if we got butter. Yes we get plenty of butter. We also have a pint of milk at each meal. And about this stealing. There is very little of that among cadets. But we were issued some sun glasses yesterday, and I believe somebody swiped them. But as a rule there is no stealing. Once in a great while it happens. But here G.I. men can come in our barracks when we are gone.
We have 2 exams in ground school tomorrow. I’ll write more Sun.
So long,
Alva
P.S. I got heck for falling asleep in Communications class today. The instructor was pretty mad. tsk! tsk! AB
