Fri. 6:15 P.M.
Dear Folks:
Well folks I have time for a few words. This has been an easy day. We had a parade this morning. Then we turned in our flying equipment and school books. This afternoon we had field day. I played on the softball team for our squadron but we lost. This morning I found time to get a coupon for a pair of shoes and then I went to the main P.T. and bought a pair. They cost $5.50. I also had time to get a money order for $50. I will send it in this letter if I don’t forget. I’ve been trying to find time to do that for about 4 weeks. Then we got paid about $20 yesterday. So I had about $110 in my pocket. That’s a little too much to be carrying around.
We had a little watermelon feast on the flying line yesterday. There were 4 majors, some captains, lieutenants, etc. there too besides all the cadets in my flight.
I found out where I’m going. I’m going to Aloe Field, Victoria, Texas. This is 350 miles south of here as a crow flies. So it will be about a 450 miles trip. It is south of San Antonio yet. It’s just a few miles from the gulf coast. I guess it is someplace near Houston, Texas. We leave sometime Mon. About 3/4 of the fellows are going to twin engine and only about 1/4 of us are going to single engine. I may end up in a bomber after I graduate though. But I’ll have a lot of fun in advanced first. Advanced twin engines isn’t anywhere near as much fun.
Well folks I’ll close for now.
Yours truly,
Alva
P.S. I was disappointed in myself. I only got a 71 on my weather final. tsk tsk tsk AB
