Dear Folks:
Here I am just putting in my time yet. We had two more shots today so my left arm is a little sore tonight. Some fellows had a shot in each arm so they have two sore arms. I had them put both shots in my left arm.
Boy it gets pretty chilly down here at night. I got ambitious and did my own washing today. I’ve been spending most of my time on my bunk. It’s very depressing to just lie around all day long. Most of us are raring to go but here we sit.
I saw tonight in the paper about our first big raid on Berlin, and I understand they are doing the same thing again tonight. Maybe the fireworks are starting now. I hope so. I hope I get a crack at combat flying.
Say what’s the matter? I’ve only gotten one letter from you folks since I left home. I hope you aren’t mad because I gave Garnet that ring?
I’m pretty good at washing clothes. I think after the war I’ll taken in washing for a living. As a sideline I can shine shoes and mop floors.
My stomach will be ruined if we don’t start flying soon. Besides eating 3 big meals a day, I usually eat several candy bars and I usually get a chocolate milk shake at least once a day. Right now I have some cookies I am chewing on. All that wouldn’t be so bad but I’m not doing anything to work it off. If this keeps up too long I’m liable to get fat. Now that would be awful at my young age. I’m afraid I won’t know how to fly when I get in a plane again.
You know I only sleep about 8 hours a night besides about 4 hours in the daytime. There’s nothing else to do. I’ve written to everybody I intend to write to and now I won’t write until I hear from them. I wrote to Murell, Pug, Aunt Hattie, and Marsdens. And you you folks and Garnet.
Well I think I’ll close now and try to talk myself into going to sleep. I hope everybody is well and healthy like I left you.
Yours truly,
Alva
PS This hard work is killing me. I’ll be just skin and bones yet. tsk tsk tsk
I’ll be seeing you someday. A.B.
