Dear Folks:
I guess I just as well write as much as I can now because I won’t have time to write so much later on I suppose. It is now almost 1:30 P.M. and we haven’t done a thing all day. We were waiting for barracks inspection this morning but it didn’t come. We were also waiting for a call to go take our one exam, we’re still waiting.
Did I tell you the fellow in the bunk below me is a Chinese boy. Don’t laugh but we get up at 5:15 and we scrub the barracks floors every morning. Outside of that we’ve laid around all day. I’m getting tired of doing nothing but I don’t dare go out and get into a football game until after all my exams. Might tire myself out.
It is now 6:10. I just went over and was processed, made out my insurance, etc.
I must take my physical exam at 7:15 tomorrow. I have to take some shots some time and some more exams etc.
I don’t know when I’ll send my clothes home, all I have so far is a pair of coveralls.
Well write soon and let me know how everything and everybody is. I’ll try to write Murell soon.
Yours truly,
Alva
Murell Bessey was Alva’s 28 year old brother. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Chemical Engineering and was working and living in Maryland. Murell had just gotten married in December of ’42.
