My 4th great grantfather, Gabriel Martinus Hoek, was born in Stavenisse, Tholen, Zeeland, Netherlands on 30 Mar 1781. He married Sara Maria Van der Werff on 3 Aug 1806. Over the next nine years they would have five children, one son only living a short time. Gabriel’s wife Sara died in April of 1817. He died just eight months later at age 37, leaving four children ten years old and under. Only one of their children, daughter Hendrina “Anna” Hoek (married to Martin Kornoelje), eventually came to America.
