Chapter 3 Page 4

When Clarence and Dorothy moved to Grand Rapids they rented a home at 927 Calvary NW. Years later I obtained this picture of the home taken by someone who lived there in the 30s. They lived here until 1928. Sadly this house burned down in 2014.

The 1923 Grand Rapids City Directory lists Clarence Bessey as being a door hanger but no company name. Perhaps it was Hayes?

There was an article in The Grand Rapids Press dated 26 July 1924 entitled “Building Permits of City in Week to Total $140,481.” Clarence Bessey is mentioned as getting a building permit for to build a temporary house for $200 at 1015 Frederick Ave., N.W. which was one street east of Calvary. Could this have been temporary housing for his friends from Lakeview?

Another Grand Rapids Press article dated 15 Sep 1925 lists a real estate transfer to Clarence Bessey for Lot 7 Oakley Addition. This real estate transfer was from his good friend James Marsden.
