Chapter 3 Page 6

This trip to Ohio may have happened a year earlier than Murell remember, when Alva was only 1 1/2. In 1922 Rosie would have been 88, Catherine was 80, and Mary Ann was 72, as this picture states. Catherine’s husband had passed away just a few months earlier, in May of 1922. And Mary Ann’s husband passed away in 1921. So both of the aunts in Ohio would have been widows. George, the only brother who stayed in Ohio, had passed away in 1919.

Rosie Bessey Sweitzer died in July of 1925 at the age of 91. Her husband passed away six weeks earlier.

Christine Bessey Swander from Iowa died in October of 1929, a month after her husband. She was 91.

Catherine “Kate” Bessey Sponseller died March of 1932 at the age of 89. She had been a widow for ten years.

Mary Ann Bessey Brillhart passed away in May of 1939, just three weeks before her 89th birthday. She had been a widow since 1921.

The brothers died in the following years: Jacob in 1913 at the age of 72. George in 1919 at the age of 83. Jeremiah in 1931 at the age of 86.
